Placebo is a French word. It’s a term used in medical science. Suppose, doctors have made a 100 different check-ups on a patient to diagnose his disease. But no disease could be found out. But the patient is still urging that he (or she) is suffering from a severe ache in his or her abdomen. When situation turned like this, the doctors agreed that his pain is but a psychosomatic pain – that is, this pain has just occurred entirely from his psychological problems. Then the patient was given some tablets in an impressive container. He was said that those were his only medicine for the treatment of his pain. He would have to take it for one month.

The patient returned to the doctors just after 10 days. And he reported them that he was fully cured. Actually, what he was given as medicine – were not actually any medicine at all. Perhaps those medicines were only some vitamin tablets. And it is called a placebo. The patient is just put under the shadow of belief and is cured psychologically.

I believe that stones have an effect like that of a placebo. Apart from the chemical reaction and radiation of a stone on human body, it has another effect on human mind and that is his blind faith, which is quite powerful. So it works like psychotherapy in human mind. His confidence increases. And that brings him success.

A person may even get the advantage of using a stone no matter whether if it is a fake stone, of which he is unconcerned. If this is the case, shouldn’t the stone be called a placebo?
